Most people don't put EQ directly attached in between a source and the receiver. THAT is what a TAPE loop is for. Then it can be inserted or bypassed by the flick of a switch. OUTs go to INs. CD OUT to Audio IN; Main OUT to Receiver (anywhere BUT Phono) IN. Traditionally, the EQ would be in one the tape loops and the D (and all other sources) would be attached to your receiver and a tape Deck would be on one of the EQ's Tape Loops so you would have flexibility to use the EQ with ANY source; and before or after a Tape Deck.
Bear in mind that an AVR (digital multichannel receiver) will NOT pass any digital audio to or through an EQ and that activation of a Tape Loop on an AVR disables all digital sources. Jun 29, 2011. Be advised, any digital programming you want to hear will probably be muted if you monitor any tape deck. That's pretty much normal. You can slave an analog deck off the EQ as it has a Tape Record/Monitor loops of its own and facilities for making the EQ be on the Record OR the Playack side of it. Normally, the receiver's internal volume, eq or effects controls will not affect the analog loop out to the EQ-100 or attached decks, BUT, this receiver sends processed effects out to Tape Deck 2, if you should desire to record them (page 29 of the manual). Other REC Out jacks pass conventional UNprocessed sound. I couldn't find the exact instructions for this model but they all work about the same.
