Application A dial on the back of the spreader lets you set the proper application rate, which is normally located on the back of the fertilizer bag. Not all fertilizer lists this particular spreader model, so use any reference to Scotts broadcast/rotary spreaders.
If you're using a Scotts brand fertilizer, there's also an online spreader setting tool to help you find the correct number for the dial. To begin the application, start pushing the spreader in front of you at a steady pace and pull the trigger under your right hand. Hold it down as you spread; when you release it, it stops the flow of fertilizer. Pass Row Spacing The EdgeGuard spreader releases granules about 3 feet to each side, so when you turn, leave space between your pass rows to ensure even coverage and to keep from spreading too much fertilizer in one area.
Scotts suggests a width of about 5 feet for your pass rows. When you turn at the end of a pass row, push the spreader 5 feet to the side and turn it for a parallel row headed in the other direction. This overlaps the spread slightly so the area in between the pass rows gets the same coverage as the areas right beside the spreader.
